About Me
I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, Tangail, Bangladesh. My academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and Master of Science (M.S.) in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Dhaka, where I graduated with first-class honors, securing the 6th position in my undergraduate cohort and earning the Dean's Award for academic excellence.
My research career spans over a decade, covering diverse areas in life sciences, including molecular epidemiology, heavy metal toxicity, neurodegenerative disorders, and hypertensive vascular diseases. I began as a Scientific Officer at the Columbia University Arsenic Research Project in Narayanganj, Bangladesh, where I worked for over five years under the indirect supervision of globally renowned scientists, including Prof. Habibul Ahasan and Prof. Joseph H. Graziano. This role honed my expertise in handling and processing human biospecimens and contributed to more than 15 publications in high-impact journals.
In 2015, I joined the International Centre for Diarrheal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b), as a Senior Research Officer. My work here focused on salinity in drinking water and its impact on kidney health, equipping me with skills in project development, laboratory setup, and management.
In 2016, I was awarded the prestigious Japanese Government Monbukagakusho Scholarship (MEXT) to pursue a Ph.D. at Juntendo University, Tokyo, Japan. My doctoral research, under the supervision of Prof. Yumiko Motoi and advisory support from Prof. Nobuta Hattori, focused on prion-like tau propagation and its inhibition, contributing to advancements in understanding dementia-related neurodegenerative disorders. My Ph.D. work was published in international journals, and I earned a Best Poster Presentation Award for my contributions.
After completing my Ph.D., I continued at Juntendo University as a Postdoctoral Fellow, where I explored the effects of physical exercise on miRNA expression and its potential to alleviate dementia-related comorbidities. This research resulted in a chapter contribution to Elsevier’s book on autophagy dysfunction in Alzheimer's and dementia.
My academic and research career is complemented by a strong teaching portfolio, where I actively guide both undergraduate and graduate students, alongside contributing to curriculum development and examination processes. Fluent in English, Bengali, and with basic proficiency in Japanese and Urdu, I aim to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and contribute meaningfully to advancements in biochemistry and molecular biology.
